Company president, Rod Card has always had a natural ability to see beyond
the present needs of the aquaculture industry. His keen foresight has led
to the development of a better HDPE circular cage, a unique HDPE weight
ring, an automated computer controlled antifoulant application machine and
a new software tool that promises to revolutionize fish farm net pen management.
|
In 1992 the fledgling company was busy building nets and
establishing growing relationships with the local fish farmers.
Seeing a need for a better circular cage
led to the development of an improved design that went into production in late 1993.
By 1994, the new circular cages were proving themselves in the harsh local marine conditions.
It quickly became apparent that Cards Aqua cages were outperforming the competition
with lower maintenance and repair costs. Continual improvements on the original design
have led to an exceptionally strong and flexible cage that can withstand years of
natural marine abuse, reduce maintenance and repair costs to ultimately lower the
overall cost of ownership.

In 1996 Cards Aqua was able to fulfil another aquaculture industry need.
A need for a better product than what was currently available on the market.
Net pen tensioning technology at the time was a series of simple weight balls
which were proving ineffective in areas with strong currents or tidal movement.
Multipart steel devices were also in use but these devices had to be completely
assembled underwater, were easily damaged by storm action and extremely difficult to repair.
The solution to this problem earned Rod Card an Entrepreneur of the year award
for 1996. Cards Aqua developed and manufactured a product that could be completely
assembled on land at the waters edge, a one piece circular unit that was easily
repaired if damaged and was manufactured from sand filled, HDPE pipe. The Cards
Aqua weight ring has proven itself to be a superior underwater net tensioning
system and continual improvements have led to a concrete core ring, replacing
sand filled units.

Ahead to 1998. Months of intensive research, development, planning and design result
in the construction of a new antifoulant application machine. A computer controlled
system that could produce antifoulant protected nets with never before seen efficiency and
environmental responsibility. The first of its kind, the Cards Aqua automated antifoulant
machine has set a new standard for environmental consciousness in the aquaculture industry
antifoulant application process. Our antifoulant application process delivers an end product
that is superior to any net antifouled using traditional methods. Better antifoulant coverage,
improved pick up and superior curing of the antifoulant compound translates into an antifoulant
treated net that outperforms the competition and reduces net service costs.

The tradition for providing solutions to the aquaculture industry needs
continues as the world enters the new millennium. The year is 2000 and
the creative team at Cards Aqua is again hard at work building a solution
to solve one of the industry most complex issues, net pen management.
After 2 years of research and development which includes feedback from
aquaculture industry professionals, a highly skilled team of software
developers set to work creating an internet based, online net management
database system that promises to revolutionize the process of net pen
management in the aquaculture industry. The final product is a software
solution known as the Cards Aqua "Net Management Database System". The new
system allows our customers to accurately track the lifecycle of any net
pen that they own. From any computer with internet access, using a secure
username and password, users can log in to the system and obtain real time
information to create reports on any net. Information that includes
financial reports, service history reports, purchase history reports,
inventory reports, net location reports and much more. This new system
allows our customers unprecedented ease of use and the freedom to access
the data at their own convenience from any computer with internet access.

For the year 2003 and beyond, we at Cards Aquaculture Products have
committed ourselves to being one of the predominate forces in the field
of aquaculture product and service research and development, striving
to solve the industries most difficult issues and setting new standards
for environmental responsibility from within.
